I'm trying to make a short video with windows movie maker on windows 8 and when I click on the "record narration" button, then click "Record" it starts counting up seconds like its recording, so when I finish, it automatically adds it to the video but when I go to play the entire thing there is absolutely no sound, its dead silent. I don't know what im doing wrong. the audio files are saving but there's no sound, I even try to open it in music audio but theres no sound so i'm guessing its something to do with my microphone or imputing, i'm not sure, it just seems like the computer isn't recording me. any ideas?

I have never used Windows Movie Maker, but I may know how to do this. First I would check the settings and go to audio settings. I am sure there is something there that talks about mics, so select the make you aare using. I would also look and see if the audio file's volume was turned up all the way. If none of that works, I would record a video of you saying the narration with your camera and import it in. Idk if you can make a file transparent or put one under the top layer of footage, but try those if you can. Go to the softwares website and find costumer support or help. There should be a help tab when the application is open. Ask the costumer service if nothing above worked. Hope this helped 😉
Mr. T:
It's a little more work, but I first type out a script. Once the script is completed I then use the recording option in the Voice Recorder App, (W10) which is saved automatically as a .m4a format in Documents/Recordings Folder. This way it is easier to rerecord a segment. I then click on "Add Music" in Movie Maker to select the audio file
