It wipes out everything – virus', personal files, and your installed software. This is a very radical approach to virus termination and should not be done unless nothing else works.

First, run your antivirus program. That should resolve your issue as a general rule.Certainly there are exceptions, depending upon what type of infection you have, but in most cases this is the proper resolution.
Second, if first choice above doesn't work, do a system restore to a date just prior to the viral infection. This will take your windows system back to a point in time when there was not virus. Your personal files are not touched in any way.
Third, and final option: reinstall windows by removing everything

Aaron:
The first thing I would recommend trying is To use the Restore Point that you have created, or any one on the list, click Start > All Programs > Accessories > System Tools. Select "System Restore" from the menu: Select "Restore my computer to an earlier time", and then click Next at the bottom of the screen. If that doesn't work. I'd remove everything and reinstall. If you pc has a bad virus then I mean unless you can find a virus remover Idk what else to tell you hopefully that helps!
Joyrazz:
That is not a very good idea. You can purchase a antivirus for 1 year security and you will be remove all viruses from your computer without reinstall windows.

Not always. It often leaves dormant files hidden n the drive. Use a proper tool. Why did you not have a good fully updated active anti-virus?
Lee:
You mean reformatting? Yes, in most cases it will destroy all viruses. It also destroys everything your computer has in memory. You can back up your files, but backing up infected files will also restore the virus.
Steven:
Yes, but it will also kill all your files, so it's only used as a last resort.
