I want to test a GTX 970, but unfortunatly, I have an old desktop without the PCI-E power connector,
I tried to use it yesterday with that computer but it didn t display anything.
Does that mean the GPU is broken?
The gtx 970 requires two sources of power from the mobo and from the psu pci-e connector for to show a display make sure you have the right pci-e power connectors to plug into the gpu
without the power cable it doesn't work, doesn't mean it's broken
also won't work if your power supply doesn't have enough watts and amps for it, even if you do have the cable
if all you're missing is the cable, you can get a cheap little adapter that converts a couple unused molex connectors or something into the needed cable. video cards sometimes come with a couple of those in the box
Maybe, maybe not. Some cards will not power up unless they detect that extra power connector. Other cards may still run, but crash without the extra power.
Best to test it in a system that has the proper PSU, with proper connectors….
it wont do anything
