It is very important that you get all of the problems out that you can. And even then you may miss some that will show up once it is being used by many people. When I worked for the labs we spend weeks debugging every program and yet once it went into service there would invariably by a bunch or few minor glitches that would show up.

Debugging is the detective-work part of testing, verification, quality assurance, or whatever else you want to call the process of determining that a program does what it's supposed to do. It's how you respond to a failed test, and its importance is no more or less than the importance of having a program that operates correctly.

to detect any vulnerabilities in your code, of course. you also have automated tools that are in charge of scanning your whole code, detect those vulnerabilities and fix them right on the spot. checkmarx is an example of a tool which provides these services for large organizations.
