I understand you are suppose to unplug the wires from your router to reboot it and get a better signal..
what is the one that is a thick wire that screws into the back? if it were slightly unscrewed..would it cause the signal to not be good? how about the ones that slide into the slots on back?
or why sometimes the signal goes away until you unplug them and replug them? is normal that have ot do this every day or two? why?
David: Powercycling the router is unlikely to improve the signal, but it is easy enough to do and you have nothing to lose. simply disconnect the power jack for 10s seconds and then reconnect. Leave the other wires alone. Then allow the router to reconnect to the internet – this may take 10mins or so.
You may be getting interference from neighbouring networks – most routers default to channel 6 so if you have many nearby this can cause signal drops – try changing the broadcast channel from 6 to another channel 3 or 4 steps away maybe 11
If no better after this and you still have to reset the router every day or so I would class this as a fault and report it to the ISP
To reboot a router, pull the power plug out of the wall power outlet. Do not remove any cables from the back of the router.
Remove the power for at least 10 seconds then reapply.
If the router is configured to select a channel automatically, it might select a different channel after a reboot. If it is set on a specific channel then obviously the channel will not change.
Changing the channel may improve the signal, but it may also make it worse. It depends on the pass band characteristics of the router and the pass band characteristics of the WiFi device that is trying to connect. Due to variations in manufacturing tolerance, the router or the WiFi device might put more emphasis (have higher gain) on different channels. If the high gain channels coincide then you will get a good signal. If one is best at a high numbered channel and the other is best at a low numbered channel they may never work particularly well together. That's the nature of mass produced wireless devices. Even two 'identical' devices can have quite different characteristics.

They want you to unplug the power source, leave the other wires alone as they have nothing to do with a reboot. But yes the thick wire is your cable and if that is bent or not screwed in properly it can cause poor performance. Call the cable co to boost your signal at the box outside if you must reboot every day or two.
What you have isn't just a router, it's a gateway. Gateways are Modems with Routers built in, basically. THe cable you are describing is the coaxial connection coming from the wall, and that's your internet connection. It needs to be down tightly, but not so tight that you damage the socket on the gateway.
