The answer of this question would entirely depend on the degree at which you would like to program said AI. For example, in a 2d game, AI will simply run at you. They don't think about the weather, or who they like the most, or where they come from, or how thirsty they are. Many disadvantages here. Just a ray cast that chases the player around. If you were to make a human robot, AI could be as robust as a human mind. It can be very complex and make conscious decisions on it's own. Few to no disadvantages here. Again, it depends on the depth you want the AI to have.
