They made me take an online exam to test my technical skills before the interview and they accidentally sent me the wrong one which was testing JavaScript. I don't know JavaScript at all so I failed it. I emailed the HR person and told them they gave me the wrong test but they ignored me and told me they found a better candidate? I don't understand.

Anonymous: Be thankful you don't work there if this is how they treat potential new hires. If you live in the US there's nothing you can do about it — so my suggestion is to move on and learn from YOUR mistake.

(Your mistake was in taking the JavaScript test in the first place. You could have called the HR folks or e-mailed the person who sent you the test BEFORE you took it.)

Or just see it as, who cares no point worrying over it. They found a better candidate the test was probably just a small factor in who they hire.

I mean most people would look at the test, be like.. this isnt' C++ and call not try to take the test anyway…. so maybe they were like "lets see who knows the difference between C++ and javascript"

Nothing you can do. On to the next one.

Oh and it's also possible that the test wasn't about javascript at all but just basic questions that apply to all languages we dont know

Duncan:
Why do you think the exam they sent was an accident?

What evidence do you have that your claimed lack of knowledge of Javascript was why you failed the test?

If they replied to your query they did not ignore you.

As a software engineer you will encounter things that you do not expect or do not fully understand. How you respond to, and deal with, such problems is the test.

Programming is about thinking not typing code.

Chris:
Regard it as test the employer had to take in order to deserve to hire you. They failed.
Andy T:
You screwed up and didn't correct the issue in time. Just keep that in mind and correct errors ASAP.

Too late.
