My computer started getting a little slow out of nowhere yesterday. I've been reading up on it, and from what I got, apparently adware can slow down your computer. A week or two ago I got a really weird 'Microsoft' pop-up add that was talking about how it was going to disable my PC if I clicked away.
My computer started getting a little slow out of nowhere yesterday. I've been reading up on it, and from what I got, apparently adware can slow down your computer. A week or two ago I got a really weird 'Microsoft' pop-up add that was talking about how it was going to disable my PC if I clicked away. And then I got another less drastic pop-up the day after that. I don't go on any sites that would really warrant me getting an adware virus, but somehow I think I've got one. It's pissing me off because I have McAfee antivirus and it's not picking it up I guess, but obviously it was there and now I think it's was causing my computer to be slower. Is there any way I can fix this for free? Suggestions?
Jasmine: You can download malwarebytes and run that and see what it finds. Also, download and run CCLeaner. It is a great tool that gets rid of built up junk files and temp files. Run these tools and you will see a difference
First things first- do you really need windows???
If yes- then you need to find the right malware tool- install it and rid your pc of the virus. Don't overlook MS's Security Essentials, or Defender- what ever your version calls for. You might add to that Malwarebytes, and or AVG. Then you need to learn how to use it, and how to use the internet safely. Also, you may want to stop using Microsoft Edge or IE- switch to Firefox, Chrome or Opera.
If no- then why not consider Ubuntu Mate, Xubuntu, or Linux Mint Cinnamon, Mate, or XFCE. You will not have a virus issue with either of these.
I tried Ubuntu back in 2008…..I have used either Ubuntu or Mint since….and I have never, ever has a software issue since….thats 9 years without any issues. Not bad. Its worth trying.
If you are a big time gamer….these may not be for you, but for just about anything else….its unbeatable.
If you're on Windows, visit my source and download Windows 8 ISO and put it onto a USB. Then, you want to turn your computer off and then back on and want to press F12 (might change with different computers) which should load a "boot from..", you then want to select the USB and then you will be asked if you want to format your hard drives, delete all listed drives (you will lose everything on your computer) and then create a new one and proceed to download Windows OS.
Hope this helped.
The websites that tell you theyre going to disable your computer are fake. I used to have McAfee but it wasnt helping me either. I now have avast free antivirus and it will (hopefully) disable the malicious software.
