Hi, so my father decided he was getting me a laptop for my birthday and came across and HP Windows 10 laptop. I've heard good and bad things about Windows 10 and it being buggy, or Cortana being able to spy on your conversation or personal files(honestly doesn't worry me since any smart device can really) I like to use Sony Vegas Pro and edit videos a lot and play a few games on steam or download some – I'm not really the picture/song keeper person – so I wanted to know if this was good for me or not? I also use my browser frequently so I'm hoping "Edge" is as fast as people say?
Windows 10 is perfectly fine on a brand new system. It's actually fine on most computers that have been upgraded. The only issues have been with some of the older computers/laptops that were upgraded – their hardware devices were old and incompatible with Win 10. So that's where the 'buggy' stories came from.
The new Win 10 system you are describing will run just fine.
It's not buggy on hardware designed to run it and no Cortana doesn't spy on anything. Cortana isn't even on by default and at no time does it scan your personal files, e-mail, etc. unless you deliberately turn the setting on which is actually a separate setting in Cortana which is also off by default.
It'll do everything you're used to doing in Windows as long as the hardware is powerful enough for playing games and editing video.
Edge is OK. I personally use Firefox just because of the large number of extensions available but Edge will be getting that feature this year.
I have Windows 10 and it works great for me much better then With downs 8. I couldn't say about Edge as I use Chrome but I recommend Windows 10.
Eventually you're going to have to get it. I chose to avoid downloading it on my PC cause I don't really like it on my laptop. Well, one day I turned on my PC to find that it had downloaded itself… so you have no control. I personally like the old Windows 7 because I'm familiar with it. Windows 10 is laid out more like a tablet or smartphone and takes more steps to do simple tasks.
Windows 10 is pretty good, I would overall recommend it, especially over windows 8or 8.1
If you want it, get it. I personally hate it, though. Cortana does spy, and Edge is horrible. There aren't many bugs anymore. So get it if you're OK with the spying and don't mind installing and using another browser.
