Should I accept the laptop?

Ok so this is kind of an update on my last question, but basically my dad got my mom a new apple laptop for christmas. Her old one, which I had an account on, is bulky, old, and slow. They offered to give it to me, if I wanted it, but I don't know! It really is pretty bad, but would it be better than nothing?

Also, I don't know if that would close the door for a possibility of my soon getting the chrome book I really want. What would you do?

Accept it gratefully and use it to learn about laptops. There's nothing stopping you from exploring under the hood, installing some extra RAM to boost the speed and start removing unwanted programs and apps that you won't ever use. That will speed it up a lot and you'll have a great learning opportunity right in your hands!
Papercut2008uk:
take it

reinstall the OS and add some RAM (usually the issue with older laptops, too little ram so they start using virtual memory and slow them down hugely).

that should pretty much make it as fast as it can be. will be a totally differnet machine.

most laptops are not 'slow' they are just over burdened with too much junk starting up and too little RAM to run it all.

A slow laptop is 100x more useful than a fast chromebook! AT least you can do useful things with it.
Murzy:
take it for now and start a conversation about the chromebook shortly after
Gert:
I'd take it and be thankful.
