deborah: I also have a surface and I was dealing with this same problem for 20 mins and just found out how to get around it. at the login page go to the very bottom and click on "view desktop version". Problem solved.

This normally means your internet connection is too slow or you are too far from your router. If you are getting internet on your other devices, try moving closer to your router and rebooting your surface; if this still does not work, try a system restore (not a hard reset). If you are not getting internet on you other devices, reboot your modem and router; if it still does not work contact your internet survice provider.
