It's not that it can't pick up both signals/connections, it's just that it will only show 1 at a time.

I went into the settings and set them both to "connect automatically when this network is in range" and "connect even if the network is not broadcasting its name" now it only

I went into the settings and set them both to "connect automatically when this network is in range" and "connect even if the network is not broadcasting its name" now it only shows the other network. Before it showed the other one. Why can't I see them both at the same time and choose which one I want to use?

Other answer:

Brittney:
Most wireless devices are only designed to connect to one network at a time.
Captain:
Imagine your standing on a street corner with two roads, waiting for a bus. Now two buses come at the same time, which one do you take? You cant take both, so you pick one.
Ironically the computer works with LCD (Lowest common denominator) so its going to choose the slow bus every time.
Fun Police:
maybe its hidden? try manually typing in the network name.
