The reason they need to check is because they detected viruses and illegal downloading. I feel like it's some sort of scam because no one really calls to come over and check your computer, more like they'll give you a notice to stop downloading right? My brother got a notice from internet provider about torrents that have been downloading in my household and they were on spot :3 they asked to stop so we did.
I just also found out that she said they wanted her to do something on her computer, at that moment i believe its big time scam, i doubt any company would want them to do something on their computer unless you yourself called your internet provider.
It is 100% a scam. I get these all the time telling me the same thing and saying they are calling from Microsoft. They claim they have detected a virus on my Windows computer. Problem is that I are using an iMac. I usually keep them on for as long as possible. In the end they always give me a cussing, and I just laugh and laugh. Love messing with these crooks.
Yes it is a scam- they tell you your computer needs checking because is has a virus – they then typically offer to fix it for a fee by taking the computer over remotely. This then potentially also allows the scammer access to passwords emails etc. Just tell your friend to put the phone down and not pay any money
Yes its a scam. I live in Ohio and my parents and co workers are getting calls stating that the call is in reference to their computer. I even got one from someone claiming to be Microsoft. Do not fall for it.
Of course it is a scam. How would they know there was anything wrong with the computer in the first place? No home computer "calls home" to report problems.
If it is any official notice, you will get a letter (written) notice, not by phone.
Most certainly… I got a text from Chase Bank yesterday telling me that someone had tried to hack my account and that I have to call them at this number to protect it better.. I've never even been IN a Chase Bank office…
