Her Internet Service Provider should be able to furnish her with a WiFi connection. She may just need a modem/WiFi router combination to achieve the wireless WiFi connection for everyone. If not, just buy a WiFi router at a local "big box" store that plugs into her computer via a usb cord. Then set up the router with a secure WPA2 connection and password so nobody can see her WiFi connection but those that have the password. A decent WiFi router should cost between $45 and $65 at places like Walmart.

Something like this link is the easiest. (and you don't need an expensive unit for this situation.) You can hook her up via an ethernet port and use her computer to set the password for the Wi-Fi side. The unit connects via ethernet cable to her existing modem, each person connects when they are at her house and you're in business. Note that you may have to contact her internet provider (ISP) and register the router's IP as it will replace her computer's IP that the modem might use now. (That varies by modem type and ISP, but their support can look from their end and tell you what they see at your end.) If you want it faster than from a place like Amazon, Walmart, and all the discount electronics stores carry them. Amazon happened to be the first link I opened and they showed many from this cheaper model on up.

Just buy a little travel/WIFI router. They plug into the wall and have 1 ethernet input. You will get an IP from your Mom's Router (you have to verify that she has a router or gateway) and then it will broadcast WIFI. You can set it up at home and just plug it in. They have USB powered or ones that plug in the wall with no power adapter.

You just need a router with WiFi. Something for basic use will be $30-$40 at any retailer that sells computer accessories.
Benjamin:
Get a router. Or an WiFi adapter for her computer and share the wired connection. Second option is cheaper in the short run but more expensive in the long run (electricity bill).

Yes you'd need a mobile hotspot or she would have to get a router to make the connection wireless

just add a cable router with wifi. most people are throwing away their old ones just use one of those. so you unplug the lan from that pc. you put it into the internet port of a cable wifi router. you plug in a lan cable to that router and put it in the pc, the pc now still works. and you have wifi too. you MAY HAVE TO ALTER THE STARTING IP IN THE CABLE ROUTER TO BE DIFFERENT TO THE IN SITU MODEM eg the modem is 192.168.1.XXX the router must be set as 192.168.2.XXX so they dont clash
