I study in a college where torrents are blocked. Is there any way to use any proxy or vpn (free) to download from torrents?

Sure but many colleges block that too.

One solution is to set up the torrent client on an old computer at home. Then set up a VPN server at home (Raspberry Pi can do this). Then you VPN to home and access your files.

If the college blocks VPN, will this work? Probably as this is YOUR VPN not something official. Besides, VPN is a critical part of business and they have students that NEED to understand them.

Leaf Ninja:
Depends how advanced your college's filtering is. Some detect just certain sites, some actually check your connections and can somewhat accurately detect torrenting and would just throttle your speeds.

So, yes it can be done, but it all depends on what technology they use.

Mr burns:
Not counting they will trace viruses to your room you are a troubled individual and hacking will only get you thrown out of college is it really worth it?If I where you I would fix the attitude and grow up torrents are lame anyway what are you downloading that is illegal and theft.

Who:
I am surprised you are in college

In any case I would start preparing yourself for being thrown out

You have been told what the rules are but you want to ignore them and do your own thing

you think colleges are as stupid as you are?

You think they wont find out ?

ALL a vpn does is create a secure link- it DONT hide that link from the network managers

you think that aint going to ring alarm bells when the ONLY reason for you to have a vpn is to hide what you are doing from them?

you think they aint gonna notice when they lose loads of bandwidth to that vpn?

THEY dont need to know what you are doing – just that you are doing a lot of it and trying to hide it from them

they tell you to stop doing it
you continue then they either block your internet access and/or expel you

(personally I would just throw you out
why?
cos doing what you plan shows you have no interest in following college rules)

Adrian:
If they block torrents, you can be fairly sure they block VPN as well, especially any "free" ones that are well known.
A VPN is your only hope, but do not be surprised if those are all blocked as well. Intelligent firewalls (commercial) can even detect VPN use and block it just by its detection.
Kerojin:
It's made this way for a reason your know you shouldn't use college internet especially for torrents cause it's illegal for them and will cause them tons of problems.
chrisjbsc:
Yes – but not while using the college's network!
Annoy:
Yes its possible but I won't tell you that bcoz its illigal to do that .Be a self respected man , don't be thief.
Richard:
Yes. Use the hotspot and cellular Internet connection on your smart phone.
