My router has 2 ways to connect 2.4 and 5.0Ghz Why do they have this and what is the difference? I have multiple things on the 2.4 side and nothing on the 5G side. Why is that and cam I use that 5G side to split up some of the traffic I have on the 2,4 side?
mikef1234: The 5.0 GHz band is relatively new for Wi-Fi devices which explains why you don't have any devices that can see it. If that's really true, you should turn off/disable your router's 5 GHz SSID/radio until you need it. And, no, you can't use the 5 GHz band to help your 2.4 GHz devices. They can't see it.
The 5Ghz band allows for faster speeds and less interference from neighbouring networks but does require 5Ghz capable receivers. If none of your computer equipment can see it just use the 2.4Ghz band. If and when you upgrade your computers/laptops just make sure the wifi has 5Ghz capability.
The other point is that the 5Ghz band doesn't penetrate as well, so although it is faster, the speed drops off more quickly the further you are. You can't use the 5Ghz band to augment the 2.4Ghz band

Only devices with 5 Ghz wireless can use the 5 Ghz. None of your devices has 5 Ghz capability.
5 GHz for your gaming devices.
Yeah, so what's your question?
