I have had windstream for over a month and have had about 15 techs out at my house in that time, phone support and techs that come out say my line is fine. The problem is my ping is a steady 135ms and has even spiked to nearly 600ms with a tech on the phone with me. The result is that most times chrome will say I

I have had windstream for over a month and have had about 15 techs out at my house in that time, phone support and techs that come out say my line is fine. The problem is my ping is a steady 135ms and has even spiked to nearly 600ms with a tech on the phone with me. The result is that most times chrome will say I have no internet or will reset or time out connections to websites, I cant watch any videos or hardly play any online games since the internet seems to work in spikes. My question is does this sound like an issue with a damaged phone line or a problem with how windstream handles network traffic?
I am on wifi but I have the same issue even if im hardwired into the modem, my speed rises and falls as the internet drops and reconnects. I pay for 10 meg and sometimes I dont even pull half a meg download, I am also about 600 feet away from the network hub for windstream. Also I have a gaming laptop and 1 phone

steven: Currently what is your bandwidth? Increasing it will improve your latency.

Many things can effect Latency…

I know this probably doesn't many sense to your but running a Trace Route will show you the Latency to every Route your packet will go through letting you know where the BIG problem with latency occurs.

Its the best way to determine Latency issues.

Here is my Tracert output to yahoo.com:
1 2 ms <1 ms <1 ms Your Router (gateway IP address)
2 11 ms 18 ms 15 ms Your ISP Network
3 11 ms 13 ms 13 ms ISP route
4 44 ms 32 ms 19 ms ISP route
5 16 ms 17 ms 21 ms ISP Route
6 16 ms 12 ms 16 ms ISP Route
7 14 ms 11 ms 18 ms 207.239.16.25
8 41 ms 36 ms 34 ms 216.156.16.128.ptr.us.xo.net [216.156.16.128]
9 45 ms 37 ms 45 ms 207.88.12.168.ptr.us.xo.net [207.88.12.168]
10 42 ms 63 ms 66 ms 207.88.13.7.ptr.us.xo.net [207.88.13.7]
11 40 ms 36 ms 33 ms 216.3.52.14
12 53 ms 46 ms 53 ms ae-7.pat1.nez.yahoo.com [216.115.104.124]
13 75 ms 70 ms 59 ms et-19-1-0.msr2.ne1.yahoo.com [216.115.105.181]
14 52 ms 54 ms 51 ms et-1-0-0.clr1-a-gdc.ne1.yahoo.com [98.138.97.69]
15 51 ms 49 ms 54 ms et-17-1.fab2-1-gdc.ne1.yahoo.com [98.138.0.81]
16 55 ms 80 ms 54 ms po-11.bas2-7-prd.ne1.yahoo.com [98.138.240.24]
17 61 ms 63 ms 60 ms ir1.fp.vip.ne1.yahoo.com [98.138.253.109]

And my Latency (ping) to yahoo.com is= 59ms

Run a tool called winmtr. It is a windows download and also built in linux or macos ( I think called Matt's mtr)

You can easily visual the delay because it continally updates and reports the delay on all intervening links.

Hi so time to get firefox downloaded.

Did you try this connected directly to the MODEM or is there a modem/router or what is the hookup? You problem COULD even be a virus or trojan or other issue with your computer. A mismatched wifi driver and wifi router can also cause issues. Use ethernet connected directly to the modem (if you have just a modem) and see if the same thing is happening. If you have more than one computer try more than the one you are having issues. If the issue is consistent with all devices… it is the ISP's issue!

How far away from a network hub / node are you….are you living out in a rural area??..are you getting even close to the speed package you pay for…( example you have the 30 meg speed package and you get at least 20 -22meg on the download side ??)…..How many other devices are using this service??..
Are we using wifi ( that can cause a lot of problems ) or are we hard wired to the modem…??..
