My I.P. address has been blocked from my school s wifi. I wasn t doing anything wrong. My school just doesn t like students or teachers connecting personal devices, and it makes my online college classes astronomically harder. I was told that getting a VPN to hide my I.P. address would solve my problem, but I ve tried downloading two (for mac) and neither will work without being first connected to the internet; I can t get on the internet without the VPN working I don t know what I should do. Any suggestions would be much appreciated. Thank you!

Nothing you can do, you are assigned your private IP address from your school, so the school has the ability to block you from getting another private IP address from them. As others have said, you can go to talk to some councillors, or to the school administrators about it.

Another thing you can do is buy a USB Wi-Fi device, and that that device will have a different MAC address than your computer's own Wi-Fi. So you'll probably be able to use that for a while. However, it will only be a matter of time before even that device is blocked by your school, so it's best to get this cleared up with them directly.

And no, a VPN or any anonymizing software won't work here, you still need to obtain a real private IP address first before you can mask that address. If the school blocks your ability to get the private IP address, then you're stopped right in your tracks the first time.

They wont be "blocking your IP" as that's pointless. You can change that any time.

What they will have in place is White List Mac Address Filtering. This means that ONLY devices that have been added to the "allowed" list can connect. Any unauthorised network card that tries to connect is automatically blocked.

If you have a valid reason to need to connect your device, take the matter up with the school administration. You aren't going to find any simple back door to the network.

That is a stupid idea. And they do not block your IP address. To use a vpn you have to get a connection to the Internet first. The school dhcp server ISSUES your IP address to the machine. If you bothered studying you might have learned something by now.

my granddaughter had to bring home a laptop from school instead of using her own laptop! Hers could not be used for her homework! Go talk to your councilor or your teacher and see what you can do about this problem! May have to do what My granddaughter did!
