Windows hides file extensions by default. To me this is crazy and potentially dangerous. Almost the first thing I change on a new computer is to view file extensions of known file types.
The other thing that Windows hides by default is system files. This is meant to protect us from ourselves. A little knowledge is a dangerous thing and many times we know just enough to get ourselves in real trouble. Sometimes what we “know” is not correct or we think that something that applies in one area will also apply in another area. In spite of this, the other thing that I change on a new computer is to view system files.
To change these defaults in Win 10, press Win key-E, Click on the View tab, and on the Show/Hide group check the options that you want.
