I have a windows laptop and no matter what combinations of keys I use on my keyboard (CTRL+END/PRTSC or the windows button+ END/PRTSC or FN+ALT+END/PRTSC or whatever other crazy combination that has END/PRTSC), it does not take a screenshot of my laptop.

I have used a separate combination of keys on my keyboard

I have used a separate combination of keys on my keyboard that does not include END/PRTSC but I can not remember the combination. I'm hoping there is someone who does know this combination and would remind me of what it was.

Lastly, I do not want to have to download something on my laptop just to take a screenshot.

Snipping tool and Charm / per versions

If you have Windows 7 or above you have a neat little program called snipping tool that allows you to copy any part of the screen and save it to the clipboard to paste into any other program.
Daniel:
Have you tried just the printscreen button? That does a copy to the buffer. Then you have to paste it into a program like paint or whatever (CTRL V) and you will have your screenshot. It is like this on all Windows OS systems. Printscreen to copy, then CTRL V to paste once you have a place to paste it open and ready,
champer:
Simply pressing printscreen will take a shot of your entire screen, if that's what you want. Then paste it into whatever program you want by using CTRL V.

If you want something else, come back and tell us.
