I already have one router in my house connected to a modem, but it's far away from my room so the internet in there sucks. I want to get a router in my room. Can I set it up without the modem, or use an Ethernet cord for my laptop and PlayStation?

You can do one of two things. Run a cat-5 cord from the current router to where you want to set up the new router. Then just plug in the new router. It will give you an aditional wifi to hook to. Or you can set up a repeater.

You don't need another router, you need a WiFi extender with the same SSID as the router so that you can roam around the house without losing connection.

I would use Powerline network adapters such as:

This will allow you to have your own private WiFi and in this case two Ethernet ports in your room.

No need for long Ethernet cables and very little loss of performance.

I hope this helps.

Sandra C:
you need a switch. so modem > router > switch > PS2/laptop connected via Ethernet
Big Perm IV:
you need a switch. so modem > router > switch > PS2/laptop connected via Ethernet

do not use wifi extender, it will turn your enitre network bandwidth to crap.
