So first things first the Linux software is on my old go laptop that I got for Christmas around 3 years ago and it stopped working so my dad put the Linux mint software on it and it worked the first couple times but then everyone I tried to turn on Firefox it says there is another Firefox open close that or restart your system, so because there isn t any other firefoxes open I have no other choice than to restart the system but it still doesn t work after that and it s so frustration because nothing else will open now exept the files but that s it and I can t do my school work

Other answer:

kelly:
Make a Linux mint USB installer from a PC

Use a disk eraser CD to erase the laptop
Insert Linux USB live then install it

Do not do #3 and#4 updates that's why it's broken now!

Linux mint runs great .

Or you can reinstall windows if you have a coa and a disk

Greywolf:
Mint is fine, and easier to use than Ubuntu, SteveO.

You say "there aren't any other Firefoxes open". Yes, there are. That msg is reliable. [Oh, and by the way, SteveO, it happens in Ubuntu as well).

What's happening is you are starting Firefox twice. You are probably double-clicking in the Quick launch area, where you should only single–click.

And restarting in that situation is nonsense. Open a terminal, type "sudo pkill firefox", and then you are clear of it.

SteveO:
Use a better system. Mint is horrible. Grab the latest Ubuntu LTS release or go with the rock solid Debian system.
jerry t:
If all else fails uninstall firefox and reinstall it.
?:
Should have used the process manager to close the stalled copy.
