Second, if the Windows 8 Upgrade Assistant determines that your computer is capable of running Windows 8, get a Windows 8 installation DVD.
Boot your computer from the Windows 8 installation DVD and install Windows 8. Let the Windows 8 installation routine format the partition(s).
At first check that your xp configured computer is capable to load windows 8 because it's minimal requirements are more than 2 gb Ram and 500 gb Hardisk and a faster processor , may be your computer that had xp meet that configuration .so upgrade your system before the installation of windows 8.
You have to buy a WIndows 8 OS disk, restart your computer, enter BIOS and boot from disk drive. It will then take you through the process of wiping your computer and installing Windows 8.
P.S. make sure your computer can properly run Windows 8 (enough RAM, processor)

yes you can install it. First of all you can setup the Windows 8.After that you can installed.and restart the computer and reboot on the computer. It will then take you through the process of wiping your computer and installing Windows 8. processor make sure your computer can properly run Windows 8.
when you install 8 it will get to a point where it says where do you want to put it. at that point you can look at the list of partitions on your drive and select each one and delete them, and then when you are ready you can say now put 8 right there in all that free space.

Ask a friend who works with computers to show you Ubuntu, Xubuntu, Mate, or Linux Mint Cinnamon, XFCE, Mate.
Unless you are some kind of windows nerd….you probably do not want 8. 10 is out of the question for your old machine.
Higgy's tip of the day…..look online at walmart (and Amazon) for "refurbished" computers. Whether for a laptop or desktop….you can do pretty good for $250. Many of these are still under warranty.
