Papercut – Typically, when she's home, and has her phone "Location" on it'll return back on FB as "City X". It didn't this time, though she said she was home. I would think that, if she was home and location was on, it would have returned "City X". I don't understand

I would think that, if she was home and location was on, it would have returned "City X". I don't understand why it returned "City Y". My logic is that either a) she was there or b) in very close proximity of City Y. But, again, she denies it and swears to me she was home. I'm a very logical person and tend to rely on things like GPS

The ping is accurate to a point – rarely will you find it to be 15 miles off though.

While your FaceBook locator will not tell you exactly where she is at (longitude / latitude), or an exact address for example – but it will give you a good idea of their area.

To clear up the answer, it appears your girlfriend was lying to you – unless she happened to leave her phone in a town 15 miles north of you, but was home at the time.

Papercut2008uk:
depends on a few things, it's not always accurate.

if she was at home, she might have been connected through WiFi, which might show the location of the closest phone exchange which could be anywhere.

if she was connected through GPS location finding then it's probably accurate.

never used any facebook location stuff so not sure how accurate that is anyway.

Dave:
It's not that accurate. As papercut said, there are a ton of variables involved. On occasion, my phone thinks I am 2000 miles away. It all has to do with how my phone carrier is currently routing the internet.

I wouldn't stress over it. However, if trust is a huge issue, you're dating the wrong girl.

Prim:
15 miles is pretty far away, so she must be either lying or someone else was using her phone or she recently travelled to somewhere 15 miles away and hasn't updated back
Sal*UK:
Mine just asked me if I was somewhere – very close yes as the crow flies, but about 5 miles round the road way!! So no – don't believe it that much.
Daniel:
Its pretty Accurate she probably was lying to you
Windowphobe:
This relationship is clearly doomed.
K:
try it when your friend goes somewhere (and you know)
