I remember when I was 15, and roaming on a chatroom out of boredom. I found someone called 'FBI Agent', was this real or a not?

I asked them if they were serious, and they said yes. They gave my this long explanation on how they were there monitoring for pedophiles. Where they for real or just someone

No. Just like the guy who says he is with the CIA in a lame attempt to impress someone. He is lying.
rick29148:
Nope – Freedom of speech.
Joe:
I doubt a real FBI agent would have their username as FBI Agent. So yes it was probably fake and the FBI do not work like that they just place suspicious people on WATCH LISTS and monitor their online activities
146R47:
you really think he or she would tell who they are and what their doing , i used to be gullible too many moons ago , think about it first.
Josh:
Surely a real FBI agents would not disclose that sort of information to just some random person they meet on the internet?
CD:
A real Fed is not going to announce that he or she is a Fed. That would kinda defeat the point of the exercise.
?:
Faking.
mchl_the_citizen:
It was a fake ID. Nobody would've used that ID if they were going to work for the FBI.
spicy:
A real FBI agent would not tell you they are FBI and they would not make their presence there so obvious. They would be posing as a minor and you would only find out when they come at your door.
L. E. Gant:
Monitoring a chatroom, an agent would never reveal that they were doing so.
